This is an argument, word for word, between me and my uncle on Facebook.... He is a raging republican... I feel ashamed. How do I argue back to this? Where do I even start? I mean... what the fuck?
Where do I start? I'm lost. His ignorance kills me, and it makes not even want to help him, but he's fam and I want to show him that the world isn't what he thinks it is... I said "Free Mumia" on my status.
he says "Mumia Abu Jamal is a sleez bag, he did murder that Cop and he was a low level Black panther, And a supporter of black Violence against the white man."
I say
"They were "conspiring to blow up banks" and "disrupt the well being of American white families". But I call bullshit on alot of that, because I have actually ran into black panthers over on OU's campus and all they were doing was handing out phamplets and talking about black history. On top of that, if you read on some of the shady things that the US and other western countries have done, you might find it a little harder to believe everything you hear on the news. If you remember, there was a man named Hoover whose job it was to destroy black panther families in the US, regardless of whether or not they were involved in criminal activity. Look up COINTELPRO. State sponsored terrorism at it's best. How is this any different than what the US government is doing across the world? It's not.
But tell me, even if they were doing what they were accused of doing, does that justify how the US allows itself to stockpile chemical weapons, stepping out of the laws the force onto other countries? Does that make it okay for companies here to be in cahoots with those in office, and create a system that allows them to run it, and exploit the working class of Latin America for pennies a day? Does it make okay that we would rather incarcerate someone than educate a child, because it costs less?
And don't get me wrong. I support the troops, and I love where I live. I love the freedom I have to think this way. I just think that people have this idea of America that it is the first country to have freedom, and that anyone else with different ideas is savage and backwards. The overall xenophobia and religious intolerance bothers me."
He says
"If we The United States meaning US and the Goverment didnt have those weapons of mass destruction- Chemical and Nuclear and biological, Mental subsonic weapons and others Im sure, That we would have been wiped out in WW2 and we meaning you and I would be speaking Japanese, or even worse now days Speaking "Arabic" I know the History, And yes we are the first Country to have a democracy of freedom and not ruled by a dictator. The working class of latin america should have stayed in mexico where they belong, So answer this- All these countries that hate us, their people cant wait and would kill to be in The U.S. to be free, But in turn they all say the west is bad ? go Figure . I wonder how Iran would treat you ? I wonder how mexico would treat you ? Im betting not very good, You need some time to go Shooting and go to the River with me, So I can get you some redneck training, And to get you back to right thinking, It aint about how they are behaving its about how I'm behaving."
I say
"I'm all for what we did in WW2, minus the nuking and the mass destruction we caused. The nuking was simply a way for us to convey our idea that we were the supreme rulers of the Earth, and anyone who wasn't like us, was against us.
Concerning the working class of Latin America, I'm talking about how companies like Nike outsource to Latin America and the Phillipines to get cheap labor. We use their resources, their people, and their country to build our country up. I don't see the logic in that."
I stopped typing because I am simply at a loss for words... People are fucking ignorant, and it KILLS ME to know that many of them are in my own fam...
So how would you argue this? (Directed towards Menace, Boyd, I_Guy, as they are mentors to me in a sense. Anyones input is welcome though :))
Please don't bash my family lol. Regardless of what they think religiously, politically, etc, I will always love them. I can't help that I am in a red state, red town, and in a red-bred, religiously right family.
