The whole middle east is in turmoil, as it was predicted the recent revolution in Tunisia sparked major unrests in north Africa and the middle east. More on the developing situation in Egypt.

Algeria and Yemen seems to be joining the recent revolutionary wave sparked in Tunisia, http://english.aljazeera.net/news....73.html and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010-2011_Algerian_protests . I just can't understand how these western backed (especially the US) dictators stayed in power for 20-30 years. I hope next will be Saudi Arabia along with George Bush's friend King Abdullah, i hope they cut his royal theocratic head off.

With this story gaining steam, Tunisia isn't even being discussed anymore. What's going on with that situation?

Its crazy, Mubarak's regime just fell in Egypt, it seems there is a instinctual libertarian nature about all of these revolts check this interview, especially you Erik, http://anarkismo.net/article/18645 . Its an interview with a Syrian anarchist and it seems people are starting to organize themselves in a libertarian manner .

i don't want to get my hopes up, but this is really exciting! i hope this guy isn't over-inflating things though. doesn't sound like he is but since anarchist revolutions are marked with eventual failure due to their violent repression i am somewhat skeptical and want to see it before i believe it. it will be a great thing if this does lead to something though! btw, if this does turn into an anarchist revolution, does it have the potential to be bigger than the Spanish Revolution by the look of things?

Well, we can't go there, an anarchist revolution is highly unlikely or even impossible but the thing that makes these recent revolts and revolutions special is that they embody a very libertarian socialist attitude, this is the first time in the 21st century that huge masses organized on broadly libertarian socialist principles without even knowing, the last revolt that resembled a libertarian socialist revolution was may 1968 in France.

i'm surprised at how supportive the us government are of this, i wonder if the us has plans to move in and take advantage of whoever replaces him

i'm really surprised about the military too, i've never seen a military go against a dictator, usually the dictator is a general of the army so the army are always on his side

obama on egypt

i'm not surprised at all, the US dont want to loose tides with egypt and were afraid to go against mubarak at first..just incase this turned out different lol..its not about the "people" its about money.. for the U.S. he's been dillying and dallying about this whole thing from the beginning.. going on the side that he thinks is winning this battle, thats why he sits back and waits, gives speeches with no real answers behind them lol..checking out the final outcome..if the military would have went against the people then obama would have supported Mubarak, in any case he's safe from both sides lol..

btw is egypt middle east or north africa? i thought north africa..

Middle East (from a European perspective) is a region that encompasses Western Asia and North Africa, so yes, Egypt is in the middle east.

Well the dictator or the president, democratically elected or not, is the commander in chief of the army so when a revolution starts the army will always side with the government but in time the army will eventually side with the revolution because of peer pressure or internal bargains. In Romania for example in 1989 when the revolution began the army was against us but over time in a few days of bloody battle they took our side and the army actually executed the dictator that ruled us for 30 years, these recent revolutions are very similar to the 1989 Romanian revolution which many of you might check up.

Of course the US invested too much money in Egypt to see it fall to independent forces, plus Egypt has the most strategic position in the world . So they will support anyone dictator or not as they did with Mubarak. The reason why the US government is not asking the UN security council for a military intervention in Tunisia and Egypt is because these revolutions are mass driven the whole world would explode if the US would do that.

Exactly, until now your tax money has gone to Mubarak and his regime now when things are getting nasty, the US and the west is staying neutral.

That video is wondeful, i love the part when that guy says "Whether you are a Christian, whether you are a Muslim, whether you are an Atheist, you will demand your god damn rights and we will have our rights when way or the other." That is beautiful struck a tear in my eye, it happened in the 20's when the world was in the brink of world revolution, one day the whole world will really wake up and take arms maybe its a romantic and Utopian vision but one day we all will be in the same situation and we will not hesitate to take arms.
