Pioneer, Graffiti & Hip Hop LEGEND Rammellzee Passes Away (RIP) Rammellzee was a graffiti writer, performance artist, rap/hip-hop musician and sculptor from New York. His death was announced on 29th June 2010. Rammellzee's graffiti and art work are based on his theory of Gothic Futurism, which describes the battle between letters and their symbolic warfare against any standardizations enforced by the rules of the alphabet; his treatise, "Iconic Panzerisms", details an anarchic plan by which to revise the role and deployment of language in society. He was also instrumental as one of the original hip hop artists from the New York area who introduced specific vocal styles which date back to the early 1980s. His influence can still be heard in contemporary artists such as The Beastie Boys and Cypress Hill. His song "Beat Bop" was featured in the film Style Wars. Discovered by a larger audience through the 1982 cult movie Wild Style by Charlie Ahearn, his fame in graffiti circles was established when he painted New York subway trains with Dondi, OU3, and Ink 76, and doctor Revolt. Rammellzee was also a member of the Death Comet Crew, with Stewart Albright and Michael Diekmann. In 1988, he and his band Gettovetts recorded the album "Missionaries Moving." In 2003, Rammellzee performed at the Knitting Factory in New York with the newly reformed Death Comet Crew. His artistic work has been shown in art galleries throughout the US and Europe. Currently, Rammellzee's Letter Racers, and other Noise includes artistic works by individuals mostly identified with their musical contributions. Rammellzee passed away on 29th June. Cause of death is as of yet still unknown.

Copywrite - Forever & A Day (Download) In the wake of so much loss, sometimes you can find enlightenment. Somewhere between frustration and remorse, Copywrite found the words to pen "Forever and A Day". Reflecting on the recent loss of his longtime friend and collaborator, Camu Tao, the words flowed from the page to the microphone. With a song this special, Copywrite turned to his other longtime collaborator RJD2, who like Camu and Copywrite was also a founding member of the group MHz. The haunting production matches the mood of the somber lyrics of Copywrite. In order to complete the song, Middle Distance Runner, an Indie Rock Band, was brought in to add layers and sing the hook. In the end, this track speaks to anyone who has experienced loss, regret and a longing for a loved one who has passed. This track is part of Copywrite's upcoming album "The Life and Times of Peter Nelson" due out in October of 2010 on Man Bites Dog Records. "Forever And A Day": Download
Black Sheep - "Come Back Home" Feat. P&V (download) + "For The Record" Video Black Sheep Celebrates New Album With A Video And A New Single That Considers The Life Of Hip-Hop In celebration of the new album, From The Black Pool Of Genius, Black Sheep is releasing a new nostalgic single called "Come Back Home" featuring the new dynamic R&B duo P&V. The track opens with a monologue, "Oh word. Ain't seen you in a hundred. Oh, come on now, I'm chilling; you can listen to the music and tell that." The song delivers on the promise of hang-out music with a bittersweet but accepting vibe and a slow beat using a soft keyboard with reverb to spit over. But listening closely to the lyrics, it isn't just another hang-out song nor is it a song about the romance of a woman. It is really a metaphor for the desire of more significant hip-hop in contemporary culture. "'Come Back Home' is in the vein of Common's 'I Used To Love H.E.R.', and perhaps skewed a bit to my perspective," says Dres. "It speaks of the want for a more sincere meaningful hip-hop, but attests the willingness to accept what it's become and move forward." Dres of Black Sheep also celebrates with a video for the song, "For The Record" from the new album. Shot on a rooftop at sunset in New York City, it brings a sense of peacefulness over the song. Especially with a clear and pleasant piano melody on top of the beat, one would believe that it is just a quiet song with little to say. However, says Dres, "'For The Record' is a quiet song that speaks loudly and also is me giving a little backhand to the powers that be," continuing, "I don't see them moving in the best interest of the people. I'm just shining a little light on the situation." Look for the album, From The Black Pool Of Genius out today via Bum Rush Records. Listen to "Come Back Home" Feat.
