The Left - "Desperation" (Download)

Detroit City's Finest Release Latest Single, Prepare New Video

"Ironically, by recapturing an essence of the past, The Left cement their place in playlists and disc changers of the future." HipHopDX.com

"Gas Mask is 17 tracks of pure hip-hop. No filler. No fluff...While the "C" word is often thrown around, Gas Mask certainly deserves the label - and looks good wearing it...Classic." PotholesInMyBlog.com

The Song:

It's been only a few weeks since release and already the rave reviews have been pouring in for Gas Mask, the debut release from The Left. Now the Detroit trio comprised of producer Apollo Brown, rapper Journalist 103, and DJ Soko are proud to release the latest track from the album, "Desperation." Fittingly, Apollo Brown kicks things off with an urgently soulful backdrop, mixing a bevy of horns and vocal chops for Journalist's raps. "The main inspiration for this joint are the everyday struggles of inner city life," says Journalist, as DJ Soko adds, "It's about being caught between a rock and a hard place, about having your back against the wall and weighing the options between doing wrong or staying on the straight and narrow."

Fans can also look forward to a video for "Desperation," coming soon.

DJ Revolution Presents: Malcolm and Martin - Life Doesn't Frighten Me

As an internationally respected DJ and producer, Revolution’s skills have privileged the tracks of many Hip-Hop luminaries. Those skills were optimally displayed on his three critically-acclaimed solo and collaborative albums including R2K, King of The Decks, and In 12s We Trust. Revolution has also gained the esteem of fans from around the globe As the renowned DJ , producer and editor of the “The Wake Up Show” with Tech & Sway (MTV). Through more than two decades of success as a DJ, producer, and TV and film scorer DJ Revolution never forgot those early years and the promise of Hip-Hop.

DJ Revolution Presents Malcolm and Martin. Together, DJ Revolution, Styliztik Jones (hailing from LA, CA), and KB Imean (hailing from Queens, NY) represent one of the first genuine new rap groups to emerge in a generation. Not just another disparate crew, but a true collective of teachers and learners working to lead a people, a movement.
Next week, DJ Revolution will present Malcolm & Martin's latest mixtape "Malcolm and Martin were...Criminal Minded", a 2010 re-work of the seminal album released by BDP in 1987. Politically charged, powerful lyrics over hard classic beats infused with Revolution's production and signature cuts create a gritty soundscape sure to wake sleeping hip hop fans. This is a follow up to their funk inspired debut mixtape"Movement Music" and a lead in to the forthcoming album. Encouraged by the iconic men who fought for the everyman during a different time using different tools, the trio reverentially took on the moniker Malcolm & Martin as a siren call announcing new leaders armed with new tools to fight for modern-day liberation.

Malcolm & Martin's first full-length commercial release, DJ Revolution Presents Malcolm and Martin "Life Doesn't Frighten Me", will be released on 2-1-2011 on SoulSpazm Records.

Boog Brown - "Shine" (yU Remix) (Download)

Brown Study Track Gets yU Treatment With New Beat And Verse

Appearing on the recent Brown Study, the album born from the collaboration between producer Apollo Brown and emcee Boog Brown, the track "Shine" established itself as one of the more dramatic cuts, complete with pulsating handclaps and melancholy strings. In the latest incarnation of the song, a remix from Diamond District member yU, the tone is decidedly funkier.

One of the only things that is consistent over the two versions of the song is its underlying message which, appropriately enough, is to continue to shine. "Aint nobody like you / Be who you are," Boog says both to herself and the listener. "Shine on them, baby / Don't you know you're a star?" yU's verse serves to support Boog's sentiments, especially in lines like "the law that I live by is give it my all." Though the ambience may differ, the new beat and verse only compliment and build on the original, the all-important qualities of any good remix.

Boog Brown's new album Brown Study is now available via Mello Music Group
