Quote (ill) its too hype you dunno whats going on, and cos dilla didnt make the beat for doom he sounds out of place on it no, it isn't too hype for someone to rap over. if anything it is too minimalistic to be a standalone instru. there are very few good standalone instru's in hip hop and i think that is where the genre is lacking. but tracks like "Organ Donor," pretty much any Clutchy Hopkins, RJD2, Cut Chemist, Q-Bert, Metaform, Prefuse 73, etc., negates that. it was meant to be rapped over, maybe with more energy. the Talib/Q-Tip version, i would say, is a bit better though than this one. but srsly, "Lightworks" is my absolute favorite J Dilla beat. "The Rhyme (Jay Dee Remix)" is my second. Quote (ill) anyone else notice the sound quality was kinda shit too? on the whole album yeah, this is true. Quote (Emseed) Yeah i did notice that.
