First of all, I aint talkin about instrumental music. And secondly, I do think highly of music. beats don't tell a story, it expresses an emotion. The beat sets the stage for the rapper to spit over.

all music is meant to actually say something. if you aren't trying to say something with your music you shouldn't be making music. you may be MORE EXPERIENCED with sound mixing than me and therefore know how to get a cleaner sound, but let's not argue whose music is better, because that is subjective. yes, it is meant to convey an emotion, but the GREAT tracks actually say something to you if you sit back and listen. that is how music has been for thousands of years.

Also, it's very easy to sample something n have a totally different sound.... an example is runnin' by the pharcyde or the early rza beats.

yeah, it is easy to do that, but it is still limiting.

yeah, maybe. i still think it came out nice with Kanye on it. it really actually sounds better with Ye on it IMO. idk. it just doesn't have that Common feel to it i think.

^^IA. IMO, it doesn't have that certain sound that I've grown accustomed to when it comes to Common. I think that it definitely fits to 'Ye's style more.

sampling is an art form, a form of appropriation. Ur only limited if ur not creative enough.

i'm saying it still, even if to a very low extent, limits the artist's ability to express himself. instead it makes it so that the artist only allows others to express over their beats.

and btw, i am not putting sampling down. i love beats that are sampled. i'm just saying that it is kind of limiting as an artist and i find it more creative to make your own sounds. i do plan to sample a little though.

Nah man I agree on songs like Kanyes my way home where he basicaly just took the whole song but seeing how people flip samples, it's like an art. It's like saying paintings of real things are not as good because they used less imagination.
