Was listening to some Jeru the other day and came across Quantum Leap. This track has one of the most thought provoking rhymes in my opinion:

The rhyme is in the first verse:
"Hitler would have lost his life at birth"
Made me think immediately Jeru murdering a child. I don't condone what Hitler did but also don't condone the killing of another human, let alone a child. Shit had me trippin'. I was thinking about how would he do that, than thought abortion? Dono may be thinking to much on it. Yall ever get on some shit like that where you cant get a part of a song out of your head?

Also really love Talib Kweli's rhyme on African Dream:
"Actin' like slaves on a ship talking bout who got the fliest chains"
I always lose my train of thought because right after this rhyme the trumpet comes in and just holds it down for a minute.

A WELL DRESSED SKELETON SLOWLY CUTS YOUR THROAT.

"I Have No Fear Whatsoever of Anybody or Anything" -Malcolm X

“those who consider themselves the most adamant adherents of “real” hip-hop can also be the least knowledgeable.” –Adilifu Nama; an excert from his perception of Nas’s “Genesis”

interesting, i'll have to check that out, maybe murdering hitler would be justified if you knew what he was gonna do in the future, but if you didn't know then it wouldn't be.

one that i love is black star on theives in the night

"not strong
only aggressive
not free
we only licensed
not compassioniate, only polite
now who the nicest?
not good but well behaved
chasin after death
So we can call ourselves brave?
still livin like mental slaves
hidin like thieves in the night from life
Illusions of oasis makin you look twice

i'll be honest though i haven't listened to that album by Jeru

Yeah took me a while to listen to it but theres some solid tracks. Prod. is nothing compared to PRIMO but still coo, and his lyrics are on point on every song IMO. Word to Thieves in the Night, song makes me lose sight sometimes.

"I know that you've woken up and found yourself within a world a questions
where the answers come and go
And I know you don't want sit around and hear no asinine suggestions
when the truth just can't be told
But if I may, I got a thing or two to say
Although the answers are not clear
there's not a thing that you should fear
because the answers to it all whether things rise or when they fall
you'll find the truth remains the same and that truth is that God is change"

-Saul Williams

I don't believe in God, but Saul Williams, after hearing his music, has shown that he has a really unique and poetic view of God and regardless, when I heard this, it spoke to me so profoundly that I rewound it probably about 2 or 3 times. The beauty of it too is in it's simplicity. It was simple enough for me to catch and understand the first time I heard it, and it spoke to me immediately, to the point where even though I caught it right away, I just had to hear it again. It is utterly brilliant. It works because anyone who is intelligent enough (which includes anyone who would choose to listen to Saul in the first place) will hear it and identify with it right away. All of us have one day come to an epiphany and had thousands of seemingly unanswerable questions rattling around in our heads, sending us into an immediate panic. That is just a part of gaining knowledge at times. It was just so beautiful and profound because I identify with it so much. Saul does this on several other occasions as well. Most of his tracks contain at least a few lines that do this.

"Cross? Aw, shit! Jesus Christ! Time for some-act-right
Christians get your facts right
Cause Christ was not his name
That's Greek for "One who is anointed"
Yahshua Ben Yosef was his name, do Christians know this?
So who do you praise, do you know his name?
Or do you do this in vain?
Accepting the religion they gave slaves to behave
Peep the description of historian Josephus
"Short, dark, with an underdeveloped beard was Jesus"
He had the Romans fearing revolution
The solution was to take him to court and falsely accuse him
After being murdered by Pilate how can it be
these same white Romans established Christianity
Constantine would later see the cross in a dream
In his vision, it read "En Hawk Signo Wonka":
"In this sign we conquer" - Manifest Destiny
In 325 he convened the Nicean Creed
And separated god into three
Decided Jesus was born on December 25th
and raised then on the third day is a myth
Plus to deceive us
Commissioned Michelangelo to paint white pictures of Jesus
He used his aunt, uncle, and nephew
Subconsciously that affects you
It makes you put white people closer to God
(Yo, 'The Man' got game like a motherfucker!)
True indeed, fuck it, Jihad"
Ras Kass, Nature of the threat.
That part plays in my head OVER and OVER all day.

Life's a bitch and I'm just along for the ride.

That was dope, but I'm sorry, I can't listen to that shit. That is such a fucking racist song overall. Not so much that part, but the whole song is on some Khalid Muhammad (is that his name?) shit, talking about white people are the threat and the logical step is to have us exterminated.

"And come this time around
You'll choose to walk a different path
You'll embrace what you turned away
And cry at what you laughed
'Cause that's the only way
We're gonna make it through this storm
Where ignorance is common sense
And senselessness the norm

And flags wave high above the truth
And the two never touch
And stolen goods are overpriced
And freedom costs too much"

^^^ more Saul

"the only guarantee in life is a life worth dying for
Cause death don't wait for no one
It's sitting on your front door"

LOL! It's ironic that it makes you think that, considering the guy is straight edge ;)

Might as well post some thought provoking Agent X lyrics real quick, eh? :D

"riverrun past the Wakening we reJoyce (James Joyce fans should catch this reference)/
Thankful everyday for our God given voice/
Realizing our plans as they come to actuality/
Finding the essence of life is found in it's banality"

I agree with very little of what he says, however, I admire the songs creativity. I admire the fact that he refuses to sit there and be silent.

the devil grows inside the hearts of the selvish and wicked
white, brown, yellow and black colored is not restricted
you have a self destructive destiny when your inflicted
and you'll be one of gods children and fell from the top
there's no diversity because we're burning in the melting pot
so when the devil wants to dance with you, you better say never
because the dance with the devil might last you forever
- IMMORTAL TECHNIQUE - DANCE WITH THE DEVIL

I'm in the glass house when the whole world seems to throw stones
-ROOTS MANUVA - TEARS (whole track is very deep)

Turn me over on my backbone
Opened up my butt then she started to lickin' up my asshole
- GETO BOYS - GANGSTER OF LOVE
