And I think it's kind of funny... Cause if hiphop never went mainstream, I doubt that it would have ever left the east coast. It would have been a fad.

And wasn't DMC mainstream? What about LL? And NWA? And Tupac? And Biggie? And Nas? And about half of the rappers we all consider "good" that were around pre-1998 or so? I mean sometimes you just gotta go mainstream, period. I don't consider Biggie a sellout because he conformed at times. If he didn't evolve with the game, he would have turned into a washed-up has been. He had to put food on his table. You can't stay underground forever.

what makes something bad because it's corporate? I mean i don't blame alot of rappers for selling out. I would do the same if I was selling drugs to feed my family or something.

Not the whole mainstream at all... Big Boi is mainstream and he relelased album of the year to me... same about Nas and Marley but they don't seem to get much mainstream recognition with "Distant Relatives"

co sign...maybe its because i've been down with the yt group for a while now that i actually get it..this is against the corporate/mainstream and all for supporting unknown and underground hip hop so posting about artists like kanye west etc it doesnt make sense lol

i can only speak for myself but i THINK that most of us here like some mainstream artist but we dont try to promote or discuss them here..(at least i dont..)
