I always thought of gangsta rap as everything that embodies the gangster life and puts it on wax. Hardcore, mafioso, however you want to call it, you're still talking about G shit. Also, i believe Ice-T, and early Ice Cube are more of "Street poets" than Nas

Quote (Ratmn) THEY ARE ALL GANGSTA RAP NOT STREET POET SHIT. That shit doesn't exist. Period. I can be as hardcore as I wanna be as long as I hide it under an "intellectual" gimmick lol Snoop shouldnt retire. I cant say everything he does is gold (cuz clearly its not..) or everything he does is for Hip Hop, but what he does give is a legend's face from the 90's in the mainstream.

That's so stereotypical it hurts my mind, minstrel show all again. Hardcore hip hop does not generally revolve around "gangsta" lyrical themes, the music is also very different, for example Wu tang lyrics involves a blend of Five Percenter terms, Kung Fu/oriental words, and comic book and street terms while most gangsta rap lyrics involves street gangs, drive-by shootings, drug dealings etc. Quote (Greeny) Why does he need to retire? He passed his prime a LONG time ago, look at MTV and BET do you see him anymore? Snoop is on TV when he is featured in a song alongside popular artists of the time or when he's on weed. The Rolling Stones along with Snoop and Dre should retire.

Plus, sadly, he's the only one holding it down for the West Coast this days. The Game doesn't sound from the west anymore.

Capone-N-Noreaga, Mobb Deep, Big Noyd, all of them, they talked about the same shit that guys from the West talked about. Only in a more lyrical way (and with no drive-by) I'm not saying AT ALL that "hardcore" hip hop is bad. Matter of fact, without it, hip-hop would have died. All I'm saying is, get that shit right. Hardcore hip hop is gangsta rap from the east.

Hardcore hip hop is gangsta rap from the east. and These are very different, BOTH MUSICALLY AND LYRICALLY that's why they are categorized as two different sub genres of hip hop. Rock music is the same for every genre of music is the same.

Nobody is holding down the West Coast properly. The West got exploited and raped during the 90's. The CEO's and companies got rich off of their music and let them die without so much as a funeral and burial.

Same theme, ain't it? Listen to what they are saying at the first verse. They both brag about how gangsta they are, they both say they are deep on the streets. So, what's your point? They are different? They do are, in a lyrical way, but it's the same topic. 4 minutes of gangsta shit. PD: I love that SCC song, lol

He should stop trying to get popular again, and then get on some real shit. To me it sounds like you suggest that artists should retire when they aren't "hot" no more. They should rather stfu than releasing that whack shit. They should rather do real shit than stfu. That be basik math bro. real > nothing > whack He sold out a long time ago, so I actually agree with you, he should retire, but not because he's not popular on his own, but because his material is weak and desperate. I'd like to add that I haven't heard the song yet, youtube is being sexist atm, won't let me load it.

They do are, in a lyrical way, but it's the same topic. that's true, but they constructed their lyrics and music in a different sound and manner, that's the thing in music, go to music/art class for example and they will teach you the same i am talking about music in general. Quote (Ratmn) PD: I love that SCC song, lol Same here, i don't know why but when i hear G-funk and 90's gangsta rap i wanna smoke something LOL Quote (Ratmn) Maybe he means the whole G-Funk genere. I completely agree, that's why Dre should retire also they lag behind too much instead of making music.
