what came out this year?

Anything worth of attention? Ummm not that much. Neek The Exotic's Still On The Hustle, Evidence's Cocks and Dogs (beats are sexy but Ev's lyrics are still below average), Cunninlynguists' Oneirology, Royce's Success Is Certain. Erik's Modus Operandi is dope but too short but I guess I'm the only one who heard the entire album so far lol

MENACE 2 JOKER: Go back to Mexico you damn spic
JOKER 2 MENACE: Shut up you fake nigga your a damn sand nigger not a full nigger

On-Topic, This album is really tight, best album i've heard all year i think

Yeah man dont get me wrong, I love Cole World. Second favorite album of 2011.
Thank Me Later was just perfect timing in that time of my life.

And R&B is NOT gay (Insider) lol. Its very soothing and melodic. Great for thinking and concentrating.

I might extend my previous claim to say that this is the best album to come out in the past couple of years

In the past couple (by couple I assume you mean 2) Nas and Damian Marley dropped Distant Relatives, Reflection Eternal dropped Revolutions Per Minute, Guilty Simpson dropped O.J. Simpson, Madlib release The Medicine Show No. 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, The Roots dropped How I Got Over, Muggs and Ill Bill dropped Kill Devil Hills, Black Milk dropped Album of the Year, Kanye released MBDTF (and this is a very overrated album but I doubt J.Cole's is better), DJ Premier and Year Round Records dropped Get Used To Us (pretty underrated release), David Banner and 9th Wonder released Death of a Pop Star, etc. And that just 2010. I could also mention albums like Armor of God by Vakill, The Family Sign by Atmosphere, Oneirology by Cunninlynguists, Elmatic by Elzhi, etc., but I really don't think I need to. There has been way too much dope hip hop recently to call J.Cole's album anywhere near the best release in the last couple of years, though I would agree that hip hop has been pretty stagnate in general lately in terms of albums.

...have you even listened to this album? Most of the ones you just listed have maybe 2 or 3 decent tracks on them. This album has at least 9. But whatever "Opinions are like voices, we all have a different kind" Mr. Boyd.

just did. Sideline Story was the only track i thought was dope and Rise & Shine, Breakdown and Cheer Up were a bit above average. most of the rest of the album was slightly below average and some of the tracks i thought were garbage. it was filled with mostly pop crowd pleasing stuff, though i will say it's better than most pop albums, mainly because of the production and his flow. the subject matter and lyrics over different music would have, for the most part, made for a much better album. this album is not even the best to come out in the last few months let alone the last two years.

albums better than Cole World in 2011:

Blu - Amnesia (NoYork and Jesus were garbage but Amnesia, which is an EP, was pretty dope. idk yet about Open. i haven't listened to it)
Cunninglynguists - Oneirology
Pharaohe Monch - W.A.R.
Atmosphere - The Family Sign
Beastie Boys - Hot Sauce Committee Part 2
Canibus - Lyrical Law (idgaf what you say the tracks i heard from that album were ill, especially those featuring K-Rino lol)

and there's a bunch of shit that is supposed to drop soon too that look dope, like the Masta Ace/MF DOOM collabo, Killer Mike and El-P's collabo, the Myka 9 album and the Freestyle Fellowship reunion, Common's new albums, a new Roots album, etc.

The only pop-soudning songs on it were cant get enough and mr nice watch IMO.

My fav tracks are (in no order):
Breakdown
Cole World
Doller And A Dream III
God's Gift
Lights Please

The second verse of Lost Ones will be considered his greatest verse of all-time when his career comes to an end.
I just cant tell you how powerful that verse is.
