Illmatic, to me personally, is stuck in NYC in 1994. lots of old NY slang, beats that epitomize 1994 (especially "Life's A Bitch" with it's straight up 90's R&B beat), subject matter, rhyme style, etc. everything about Illmatic made it the type of classic that typified a decade, not transcended one.

i agree but that's what makes it a classic the way the 90's are carved into that album its like a time machine that's why i think the album itself is a true classic
