Quote (sodr2) r u dumb????? am I dumb? You're honestly sayn for someone to like stan getz and joao gilberto is dumb? Obviously you don't get the genius behind the complexity yet mellowness of bossa nova. N how can you not like Freddie Hubbard? Or the ahead of its time block chord style of Red Garland? fuck you...

Quote (Joker13) tito puente fucks them all up there's a Jazz station in LA that broadcasts from CSU Long Beach and they have a Latin Jazz show where they play Tito Puente ALL THE TIME! he's one of the few i like. Latin Jazz has to be done right to not sound like all the songs are the same indistinguishable salsa track. Tito Puente definitely breaks the mold. i still wouldn't put him up against the likes of Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Ornette Coleman, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Pharaoh Sanders, or even Sun Ra for that matter. still an AMAZING musician though in his own right.

Quote (Joker13) no the fact that you mistaked two different types of music one being salsa and the other being latin jazz i don't care if you perfer them to tito to me tito is bigger then them for the fact his music took my mind off the place i was living in (at that time) and just is a big impact to MILLIONS of latinos john coltrane is good but how many times can you really talk to someone about him unless their big music buffs ask almost any latin kid about tito and they know whats poppin i didn't mistake Latin Jazz for salsa. what i meant was most Latin Jazz, because it takes A LOT of skill to do it right, sounds like a failed attempt at salsa, marenge (is that how you spell it?), or some other form of Latin music. i just said salsa because it is the most recognized style of Latin music. as for the Coltrane thing, 1. i'd heard of John Coltrane long before i started to study music heavily. Coltrane is (though not quite as famous) the Jimi Hendrix of Jazz. and 2. if you ask any person period who 2pac is they will say yes. does that make him better than Rakim?

Most people consider his works as Hip Hop, but it sounds like Jazz. The Lead (ignore the beginning of the video) A Tribute To Dilla A Tribute To The Beatminerz
