Skyzoo and !llmind Present “Live From The Tape Deck” [video]

On September 1st, Skyzoo, !llmind and Duck Down Records hosted a listening session for Skyzoo & !llmind's forthcoming project, Live From The Tapedeck, which drops on 10-5-2010 at the NYC Guitar Center.

Jerry Barrow and Theurbandaily.com were nice enough to give us a capsule of the night's events..

“We wanted to make a 2010 cassette tape. That’s why it’s only 12 songs,” Skyzoo told the crowd. “And if you had a tape you knew one side represented one thing and the other represented something else. I knew that with Ready To Die that side A was real raw and side B was real emotional. You’ll see how the gears shift on tracks 7 through 12.”

Highlights on the album include, “The Burn Notice” f/ Sean Price and Rock of Heltah Skeltah, Barrell Brothers F/ Torae and the mind-bending “Langston’s Pen.”

Rapper Ice Cube Leaves J-Dee of Da Lench Mob Hanging!

Originally posted by:http://www.associatedcontent.com/article....?cat=33

Jay Dee was an emcee from Ice Cubes former group Da Lench Mob back in the 90's

known for the hit song and album "Guerillas In Tha Mist" released in 92 when Gangsta Rap was at its height.

In 1993 Jay Dee was charged with a life sentence for murder

"On or around June 20, 1993 one Scott Charles 23 was shot and killed when an argument erupted into violence outside of a house party in Inglewood, California. Though J-Dee was known to be a part of the altercation it has been stated that the victim Scott Charles was not. The facts as to exactly what ensued after the altercation is sketchy, but it has been said that approximately 50 empty gun shell casings were collected at the scene that investigators identified coming from as many as 13 different weapons. Dasean Laron Cooper, (J-Dee) has always maintained his innocents.

"On a MySpace profile created in J-Dee's behalf they posted a letter written by J-Dee himself where he professes his innocents. In part it reads [7] "I cannot apologize for my political beliefs at
that time, nor will I apologize for them now. Notwithstanding my position, I am not a murderer. Nor did I participate in any way in the taking of the young man's life on the night of June 20, 1993".

J-Dee's reference to his political beliefs at the time had to stem from the fact that during his trial, the prosecutors spotlighted J-Dee's music career calling him a "Gangsta Rapper". Furthermore it has been stated that not only did the prosecutor label J-Dee a "Gangsta Rapper" he also [8] presented lyrics written by J-Dee for the song titled "Who Ya Gonna Shoot Wit That" which he recorded with Da Lench Mob. It's also been stated that the District Attorney handed a copy of Da Lench Mob's Cd to the jury foreman and asked him if "this is the type of guy you want on our streets?" Adding to the already controversial trial was the fact that there were [9] Congressional meetings being held about hip hop music and how it was affecting urban youth at the time. These meeting were being headed in part by C. Delores Tucker who at the time was targeting "Gangsta Rap" artists. [10] Da Lench Mob were known as political rappers at the time aside from being labeled gansta rappers through their affiliations with former N.W.A. member Ice Cube. They were without question just as if not more outspoken than their executive producer Ice Cube and it is my strong opinion that this all played a huge part in J-Dee's conviction.

With controversial songs like "Freedom Got an A.K.", "Lost in tha System" and "Who ya gonna shoot wit that" I believe the prosecutors first convinced themselves that J-Dee was a threat to society then proceeded to sensationalize J-Dee's artwork bringing it to life for the jury while presenting not one shred of physical evidence.
