also i think the most important thing which makes a classic album is LEGACY. eg. albums like Paid In Full, The Chronic etc have changed the game so dramatically making them all time classics. Nas' album has a great concept and who knows it may just leave a long legacy on people coz its so full of messages that nas believes in which could make it a classic some day.

No! That is exactly what I was saying should NOT determine a classic! If the music is less than classic then IT IS NOT A GOD DAMN CLASSIC! If everything with great impact was a classic then Lil Kim's "Naked Truth" would be a classic. Afterall, it was the last album to be rated 5 mics by The Source. Added (08/Dec/01, 3:45 Am) --------------------------------------------- What makes "The Chronic" and "Paid In Full" classic is not their legacy or impact, it is the fact that those albums are FUCKING DOPE!

Afterall, it was the last album to be rated 5 mics by The Source. wasn't that the one where there was some controversy over it, coz lil kim was going out with one of the bosses of the source or something like that. so in that case no its not a classic and also wtf would be the legacy for that album? nothing.

OK, bad example, but what about my other example? You know, Tha Carter III? It was the album that sold platinum when it was thought to be impossible. Disregard the accusations of the company buying most of the copies (I've heard A LOT of people bumping it). That album SUCKED but it has a legacy behind it.

Quote (Erik Boyd) What makes "The Chronic" and "Paid In Full" classic is not their legacy or impact, it is the fact that those albums are FUCKING DOPE! lyrically the chronic isn't that good, production wise its one of the best, but that album help change the whole industry, everyone followed in its footsteps. It launched the careers of snoop, dpg, death row empire, so it has a huge legacy. same with paid in full you could argue eric b and rakim's later albums were better but paid in full is always the album that gets the attention coz it was their first album therefore has a great legacy, it also set the trend at the time. although nas' album doesn't set any trend i think the message will have some kind of legacy, the album is a relaxing album but thats the way its supposed to be.

I whole-heartedly disagree. PIF is in my top 5 and is my fav EB&R album and Chronic had such dope beats and the DOC is such a good writer and so is Snoop when it comes to west coast lyrics and Dre and Snoop have such dope flow that it doesn't matter. Musically, The Chronic is Fucking Dope! It isn't impact. With the Wayne thing, we aren't talking people's personal favs, we are talking certified classics. If it was my personal favs then "Perseverance" by Percee P would be a classic. "Tha Carter III," by your definition, WILL be a classic as it influenced A LOT of rappers to follow his swag, choice of beats, slang, etc. That is why what you said doesn't make sense.

I looked at the moon so full and so bright And then at the fireplace with its flickering light And realised why this world will never be right
