Real is just staying to true to hip hop. Dope can be anything dope doesn't even have to associate with music. Hell it can be drugs or w/e it doesn't matter.

exactly, that's what i was elaborating about, i was saying real can be applied to everything as long as it says real to that particular thing, duh youz understandz?

exactly, i can rap about anything even without a mic, i can rap without rhyming, but to make it hip hop is on another level i need a lot of things to transform my useless rap into hip hop. AMEN !!

Any musician can sound good, can that musician be hip hop or real hip hop? what makes it hip hop? doesn't the beat make it hip hop? the lyrics? the lifestyle? the adherence to hip hop's past and present to the patterns of hip hop? Is Miles Davis hip hop? hip hop is more then good music ;)

Music can be anything you want it to be. Is Afrika Bambatta hip hop or is he just techno? Genres constantly morph with each other so much that u can't really take any specific genre serious. In the end it's only music, nothing more.

livin life like some cheesy movie

Exactly that's why culture and tradition steps in, if hip hop didn't create a whole culture around it then Afrika Bambatta didn't even gain fame and wasn't mention as one of the founders of hip hop. Every genre of MUSIC lasts because of its culture behind it, like Jazz for example, Jazz music has a lot of sub genres but still Jazz is still Jazz because the original patterns of Jazz are there. Classical music is the same, its classical because its CLASSICAL, a musical genre lasts when it has behind a REAL tradition, not a watered down idea as you are used you, that's what i learned in music school i think in the US is called art school, maybe i am wrong

I say we just get the original founders of hip hop to write a book of rules like a constitution so that these discussions can have an absolute answer.

i'm just gonna say this.. i don't know how to relate it, but i think you'll see what i'm trying to say.

there are many nazi punk bands that play fast and loud- similar to punk. thus these bands are known as "nazi punk" bands even though their subject matter is completely contrary to what the VAST VAST VAST majority of punk bands and punk rockers alike believe. seriously 99.9% of punk bands are leftists to some degree, and hate racism/homophobia/etc.

see how that relates to hiphop? i can't articulate what i'm trying to say... fuck.

Life's a bitch and I'm just along for the ride.

your just saying they don't stick to punk culture and punk values inherently they are not REAL to punk they are not real punk exactly as hip hop, or you can leave nazi punk bands and just put pop punk bands because they are not considered real punk neither because of the same thing. :D Or you just dumb.

Well, I agree to a degree (unintentional word play), but you can't say that when most MC's are muslims (just an example), those who aren't can't be considered real MCs. But if islam was the template of hip hop, that'd be the case.

Referring to bacon's comment.

Exactly, its a unwritten thing, its in the sound in the culture exactly like in classical music, if your music is not rooted in the traditions of Western liturgical and secular music then it cannot be called classical music.

I think he just wants to create controversy to get recognition and at the same time bring recognition to hip hop as a culture. Big fan myself, and also put off by that biblical stuff.
People stopped digging him because he became preachy, so he wrote a whole gospel..
