We're putting together a list of top 5 hip hop albums from every year from 1984 all the way up until 2010. we're already doing it in the youtube group but we should use the other networks to contribute to the list too.
the way it will add up is the albums get 5 points if it gets named number 1, 4 points for being named 2, 3 points for number 3, 2 points for number 4 and 1 point for being named number 5 on peoples top 5 lists.
after the lists are drawn the top 2 albums from each year will be put against other albums in a tournament style brackets, we will have votes to see which album will come out as the greatest

Quote (Adam) how the hell can you put aesop rock and cormega above cannibal ox... jesus christ the cold vein is an absolute classic. idk about cormega but i have listened to Labor Days and The Cold Vein both in intricate detail and while El-P's production is pretty much amazing on TCV, so is the production from Blockhead, Omega One, and Aesop Rock on LD. also, LD isn't graced with lines that are such gems as this: "My mother said "you sucked my pussy when you came out"/" -Vast Aire - "A B-Boy's Alpha" LMFAO!!!!! lyrically speaking, Labor Days is superior by leaps and bounds and the production is comparable. LD >>>> TCV

Was sorta disappointed with Guru's solo album outside the Jazzmatazz project, I loved the jazz toned joints, and it seemed he sorta gave in with this album, and also the third Jazzmatazz btw (Fucking too much with that R&B), which came out around the same time. Haven't heard too many albums from this year, been checking some of the listed ones out. Loved De La's AOI: Bionix, played it like 50 times all way through, but I have to let J-Live get first place this time. Masta Ace released a solid too. 2pac's "Until the End of Time" was pretty good too, full of original verses which impressed me, but it could well have been a 1 disc album, if they cut off the wack and average songs, which is the reason I pulled it down from the top 5. I haven't heard Eyedea's album all way through, but it seems really great. Same goes for Self Scientific. Not really able to put one over the other so I guess they're tied. 1. J-Live - "The Best Part" 2. De La Soul - "AOI: Bionix" 3. Masta Ace - "Disposable Arts" 4 & 5. Eyedea - "The Many Faces of Oliver Hart" & Self Scientific - "Self Science" (1,5 points each)

indeed it does. now that 2001 is done we can move on to another shitty year in hip hop lol. in fact i think 2002 is worse! i will say though, there are several albums from 2002 that i probably need to hear before passing judgment: http://rateyourmusic.com/lists....start=0 1. Atmosphere - Godlovesugly 2. Mr. Lif - Emergency Rations (yes, i am putting an EP on the list. that's how bad 2002 was lol) 3. Antipop Consortium - Arrhythmia 4. Common - Electric Circus 5. Jurassic 5 - Power In Numbers/People Under The Stairs - OST (2 albums of which i have only heard a handful of tracks, but they were the only other albums that sounded like they might be good).

Quote (El_Matador) btw 2005 is the worst year in hip-hop. I've analyzed this year... and all I got is top 2 lol how do you figure? i know it's premature, but what albums are your top 2? i can name several dope albums from 2005. it wasn't the greatest year but faaaaar better than 2001 and 2002: Edan - Beauty and the Beat, Cunninglynguists - A Piece of Strange, Tonedeff - Archetype, Self Scientific - Change, Common - Be, Cage - Hell's Winter, Little Brother - The Minstrel Show, Kanye West - Late Registration, Quasimoto - The Further Adventures of Lord Quas, Atmosphere - You Can't Imagine How Much Fun We're Having, DANGERDOOM - The Mouse and the Mask, Murs & Slug - Felt 2, Nujabes - Modal Soul, Sage Francis - A Healthy Distrust, DJ Muggs vs. GZA - Grandmasters also, how can you hate on the year that brought us a rap album from Tom Green???? Quote (El_Matador) check my top 5, it wasn't a bad year. You just have to STOP comparing 2000's to '90s. Face it, nikkas talk about bringing back the '90s but '90s will never come back, no matter what. So, nowadays, if you can hear any type of "good music", just enjoy it. when we talk about it being a good year we are comparing it to all other years. if the only albums that came out were by Soulja Boy for some reason, would you say "don't compare it to the 90's" or would you just say "yeah, that year sucked"? i would hope the latter. compare 2001 and 2002 to any other year in hip hop, before or after, and you will find that they are the worst. and no, i haven't heard the albums you put in your top 5, but i've heard enough tracks off both of those Nas albums to say they are not at all top 5 worthy. i need to hear the rest on your list though. those 3 alone still can't make up for 2002 being a shitty year. it's ok though, with INI's album officially being released in 2003 as well as King Geedorah's "Take Me To Your Leader" and Immortal Technique's "Revolutionary Vol. 2", among others, it only gets much better from here

Quote (eboyd) Cunninglynguists - A Piece of Strange 2006, dude, 2006. Quote (eboyd) Edan - Beauty and the Beat To be honest, Edan can't write a decent rhyme for shit. I need to remind myself the album, I remember it was full of psychodelic-ass beats. Haven't heard that since 2005 tho'. Quote (eboyd) Tonedeff - Archetype I didn't know it was released in 2005. Pervert used to be my theme song Quote (eboyd) Self Scientific - Change, Common - Be, Little Brother - The Minstrel Show, Kanye West - Late Registration, Quasimoto - The Further Adventures of Lord Quas, Atmosphere - You Can't Imagine How Much Fun We're Having, DANGERDOOM - The Mouse and the Mask, Murs & Slug - Felt 2, Sage Francis - A Healthy Distrust I've never heard them Quote (eboyd) Cage - Hell's Winter that shit sucks Quote (eboyd) Nujabes - Modal Soul number two on my list, Nujabes is my role model (as a producer and as a businessman). His jazzy style and samples taken from Pat Metheny shit are my shit! Quote (eboyd) DJ Muggs vs. GZA - Grandmasters I don't think it was a good album, I was very disappointed with it, VERY VERY disappointed. Not only me tho'. Quote (eboyd) also, how can you hate on the year that brought us a rap album from Tom Green???? GTFOOH with that shit Quote (eboyd) what albums are your top 2? 1. Sleep - Christopher 2. Nujabes - Modal Soul You propably never heard of Sleep (he's a member of legendary collective Oldominion) , so check it (quality sucks super cock, too bad cos track is DOPE!) Quote (eboyd) when we talk about it being a good year we are comparing it to all other years. if the only albums that came out were by Soulja Boy for some reason, would you say "don't compare it to the 90's" or would you just say "yeah, that year sucked"? i would hope the latter. compare 2001 and 2002 to any other year in hip hop, before or after, and you will find that they are the worst. lol garbage is garbage. What I'm saying is that we have to turn a blind eye on underground rappers. They don't have the same hunger and the same fire as rappers used to have in '90s but it does not mean they can't make some dope music. It's just not the same anymore. Feel me? Quote (eboyd) and no, i haven't heard the albums you put in your top 5 I'll edit my post and put some tracks of those albums, check this shit out
MENACE 2 JOKER: Go back to Mexico you damn spic JOKER 2 MENACE: Shut up you fake nigga your a damn sand nigger not a full nigger
