What began this thread:

Religious folks need to give up.

We all know that each of our end is near; the question is do we accept the end of our living existence, or do we accept our existence as dead men...

look into Christianity.

the greatest mistake one can make in this life is to die without surrendering yourself to God.

Science, Religion, Psychology, Philosphy, etc..

All of these ideals put limits on what is.

None of these reveal the truth

I was born into a Christian fam and I hated it. Priests are a bunch of homophobic bastards (and don't say "And you know because you experienced it yourself!!!" because I know what you're comeback shit will be)

............

......uh.....

You made a huge step in your life because of priests that go against homosexuality?

Who's to say what the "truth" really is?

As of now, we have only theories and ideas.

Things like that are an exception (unless you get into some deep philosophy type of shit). Things like that are exceptions because it is proven fact by empirical evidence. Abstract things within religious certainty cannot be proven by empirical evidence, so claiming certainty about things that are not provable with empirical evidence, or faith's abstract combatant: logic, then you cannot be seen as humble. Basically you can not act like you know what is simply unknowable (most of all unprovable). That is not humble. Did you make any sense of the long comment I left a few pages back? Probably not dry

Basically what I'm saying is that if you're going to have your Christian belief, then it should be called the Christian Theory. Because that's all it is.

It's almost hard to believe that you're even serious Sodr. Some of the things you say seem only possible from a satirist.

Another thing to take into consideration is just that a billion people can believe in something, yet it could be completely wrong on many levels. We won't know, ever, unless the laws of the universe are some how repealed (though it probably won't happen), so I say we just stick to our own opinions and respect others, no matter how retarded they may seem to our minds.

my point exactly.

It may have the merit, but it doesn't have the logic.

who's to say that? how do we know science is the absolute truth? sure, i believe it is, but i do not put 100% certainty on that or anything else for that matter.

Quote (sodr2)
oh, now you're telling me i'm WRONG?? because of no proof? argument from ignorance anyone??

jumping to conclusions and slippery slope anyone?

when did i call you wrong???? i said that when an atheist calls you wrong you call them out and tell them to be humble, but when an atheist is humble you call him/her wrong. i'm calling that exactly what that is MATHEMATICALLY: if i say your wrong then you say i'm not being humble, i should be able to expect you, transversely, to be humble as well. when you are not humble (ie: claim your beliefs as fact) you are partaking in a hypocritical action. it is not an attack, it is a true statement. i'm not being mean. i'm not trying to attack you as a person. i am making you aware that the statement you made was hypocritical.

Quote (sodr2)
i mention the evidence in the Bible (no, its not ONE book), yet you respond with your frustration on how i'm apparently a hypocrite

once again, it was not frustration. if you were arguing with me in person my tone would indicate to you that i was not frustrated. unfortunately it is very difficult to show emotion over the internet.

Quote (sodr2)
tell me why you don't believe in the Bible. (no, its not one book)

because i do not believe in myths or anything else that cannot be empirically proven and science, which i believe in but also realize has not more merit than religion, and science theorizes that many of the statements made in the bible are false. therefore, i do not look to the bible as historical reference, but rather as a collection of metaphorical stories to help guide people morally. they may be truthful. i'll never know. i just believe they are metaphorical rather than truthful. they may be interpreted literally, but i personally do not interpret them in such a way.

Quote (I_Guy)
...which is not backed by EMPIRICAL evidence.

see, here's the problem. it is backed by evidence, but not empirical evidence. who is to say that empirical evidence is the true type of evidence though?

k now its clearer...

Dealing with religion (exception #2), you need more than just evidence to convince you into believing. you need to be morally disposed for faith, a right heart that strives to know the truth.....don't think it's all just blind faith

Can I ask you why you don't believe in the BIble?
