i got 7-8 people ready rip up a beat. it needs to go HARD. a beat that also has longevity, and can hold the weight of so many mcs. these are the people who will be on the track so far
If you individualize parts of your drums (ie: the hi-hat, the kick, and the snare), you can quantize different aspects of it and not others. For example, you can leave swing in the kick and hi-hats and quantize the snare. Also, there are different degrees of quantization, ie: 1/4 quantization, which is the highest most machines (such as drum machines and MPCs) go, and also the most rigid quantization. Then you can go as low as 1/32, and sometimes 1/64, before taking quantization off completely. It's sort of like different degrees of grit on sandpaper. Most known producers take quantization off for hats and kicks and if they quantize the drums at all they only quantize the snare. You really can't develop your style without taking quantization off for most aspects of your drums.
Whether or not you quantize simple 4/4 time hip hop beats make very little noticeable differences. Its just your mind thinking you can tell the difference.... that and j dilla making it seem so hip and intelligent to not quantize a beat that still has a kick hit on beats 1 and 3... and a snare hitting on beats 2 and 4.

As for the economic thread, last I checked you said you were still going to post more so I was waiting. I also don't have time atm and I am corresponding with another ancap (who is far less hostile and far more rational than yourself) by email as well, so I will get to it when I can.
What does that have to do with this? Lol, I can't believe a muscle man like you is callin me hostile. You're just butthurt cuz you got nothing left to say, ur the one always talking like "Oh good, so you do understand some economics. From the previous post I wasn't too sure." (oh man, every time u say that is so clever btw lol)
Jesus, it's the internet... stop thinking im ever being serious about anything.
Every reply you make sounds snide and snobbish. "It's the internet" is not an excuse for that. I don't like replying to dickheads. I only make comments like that because the tone of each of your messages suggests you are being an asshole for no reason so I'm simply being a dick back. my new theme song

So anyways, I have a version of the beat saved on my phone, but it is only 16 bars and the intro is this corny ass metronome lol. I will have to extend it myself and set it up for everyone, but the reason I want to speak to the other emcees is because I need to know how to extend it. We need to decide on how the structure of the track will be. I know you said that you want a scratched in hook, so I was thinking of the different way we could do this. We could do a regular length hook (8 bars) with two 8 bar verses in between and so each of the emcees have one 8 bar verse, one emcee beginning after the hook, the other where the previous emcee's verse ended. We could also go unconventional and do something like having a 4 bar hook with each emcee 10-12 bars. Or we could possibly do it like "Triumph" and have no hook, just 16 bars each emcee spitting the illest shit he possibly can. And of course we can try simply going with certain emcees getting longer verses than others. For example, you can let K-Rino and Mac Lethal both get 16's and everyone else get 8 or something like that.
Should we discuss this with everyone on the track, or do you just want to decide? Maybe we should just record an unlimited verse and someone goes through it and decides who needs to shorten their verses?
BTW, quantize really doesn't make a strong difference. It makes the whole thing sound more clean, but hip hop ain't supposed to be clean. Hence why i don't quantize for shit.
It's all about them filters and dat swing. Plus, having the best quality for your sample also helps a lot.
