sry it is at the core, opinionated but i was pretty taken back. im always in shock when there are words on Nas and there not praising illmatic

my gag reflex is enacted when i hear people praise Illmatic :D not because it sucks, but because i immediately imagine how far down their throat Nas' dick must be for them to be praising Illmatic as hardcore as they do and so i immediately get repulsed and imagine the feeling of something touching my tonsils rofl

Quote (abanks47)
if you ever have time please do. dont worry i wont try to battle them with nas verses but curious as to what you think "dropping knowledge" is. Slug is honestly the last cat i would think of for that in rap

ok, i will. and i didn't say "dropping knowledge". anyone can drop knowledge. i can say "Patrice Lumumba was the first democratically elected leader of the Congo. in a coup de etat lead by the CIA he was abducted, murdered, chopped into small pieces and thrown into a vat of acid never to be seen again while a dictator was put in his place" and i'll have dropped knowledge, but that isn't very eloquent. so maybe what i said wasn't exactly what i meant, but what i meant was, Nas is good at dropping knowledge in a colloquial manner, but there are many emcees far more eloquent who come up with wittier ways, in my opinion, to say shit, even if what Nas is saying is more substantial.

Quote (abanks47)
Nas does this very well IMO. he's touched on everything from the physical to the metaphysical, homies to females, history to myths; all while doing it with an evolving flow and great word play. you should listen to more

i've listened plenty. he's dope. however, there are people that write in a much more developed fashion than him. as a matter of fact, if we were going to compare artists who drop knowledge, he doesn't even do that the most. KRS, Immortal Technique, Saul Williams, Dead Prez, etc., do this far more and shed light on far more issues than Nas does.

Quote (ALCATRAZ)
Rakim may have fathered Nas' style, but Nas is a perfect example of the student whose skills surpassed that of the teacher. Nas shits on Rakim.

Quote (ALCATRAZ)
That's a first.

...in your (not so humble) opinion ;)

Quote (ALCATRAZ)
If that was the case, then why would he cry when Pac dissed him? Pac is the true GOAT.

lol come on man haha! i'm just saying, dude knows how to put words together eloquently in a way that Nas just can't do for me. idk. it's just a certain way he says things. the way he puts lyrics together connects with me in a way Nas' lyrics don't. maybe it's the fact that he's not from the streets, nor is he talking about the streets, and Nas is and, while a lot of my friends are definitely from the streets, i kept myself away from that. that's probably a large part of the reason Slug connects with me more. he's talking about subjects i can relate to better, and even when he's not, he words what he says in a way that i can connect with more than what Nas talks about. what's funny is he's not even in my top 10 either lol. i was just giving an example of what i've been getting into lately when it comes to emcees and why i don't regard Nas as high as everyone else. i definitely see a lot of Nas and Wu Tang knob slobbing within the real hip hop community though which makes me sick rofl

Erik why don't you just agree that nas is the greatest. There is no album better than Illmatic.

PFFT! please! if the music is good enough to consider an album GOAT, the album is GOAT. who cares if there's a track where the artist doesn't even appear. the whole album is pristine all the way through. and besides, the only features were Wu family features anyways, so it isn't like dude went and got a bunch of cats on his album to beef it up. besides, "Life's a Bitch" = sub par track :D

yeah i wasnt here for that but as long as everyone no which is better im content. also gza inadvertently took credit for bible. if u do a search for that shit on google, a large portion say gza-bible. people who are not up on it think thats his song and i think thats cold since KP is so underrated...criminally so in fact. shit even deeper on the subject i think heavy mental is better than liquid swords but thats just me.

please! every poll i've ever seen has had these albums tied up or very close to each other. the poll we did on this site had them tied up perfectly!

no, he put it on his album to help boost KP's career. the little name that KP has was sparked because of that song.

agreed

i haven't heard Heavy Mental yet, but this notion sounds laughable to me :D
