Quote (abanks47) LOL @ the Nas noob everyone. Nas is like is off of I Am... and no you couldnt because everyone knows illmatic is the highest echelon in greatness for a rap album. Nas=1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 Eboyd=0 no, just not a Nas dickrider. either way, "I Am..." was wack too. that would be, then, like presenting "Nas is Like" against "Life's a Bitch" to say "I Am..." was better than "Illmatic". not practical... at all. just because i don't know shit about Nas (nor do i care to) doesn't mean i haven't heard enough of his music to pass judgment. i have "Illmatic" and, unfortunately, "Hip Hop is Dead" and "Untitled" and i have heard most tracks off of "Stillmatic", which i admit i want, and "It Was Written" and i can safely say that Nas =/= GOAT imo.

and btw, here's why i got confused: Nastradamus and I Am... both dropped in 1999, both had songs produced by Premo that at least somewhat boosted the albums, both were leaked on the net when album leaks were a fairly new phenomenon and both leaks were way different from the album version and were said to actually be good whereas both of these releases sucked gigantic donkey dick.

Quote (eboyd) Nastradamus and I Am... both dropped in 1999, both had songs produced by Premo that at least somewhat boosted the albums, both were leaked on the net when album leaks were a fairly new phenomenon and both leaks were way different from the album version and were said to actually be good whereas both of these releases sucked gigantic donkey dick. Funny you should mention this, because I was just about to... Nas gets a lot of shit for I Am and Nastradamus, and that's completely understandable. Personally, I think both of those albums are 4.0-4.5, but that's just me. Anways, the reason the leaks were different than the album version was because I Am and Nastradamus were originally supposed to be one album, one double disc album entitled, "I Am Nastradamus". Somehow, most if not all the tracks from the album were leaked, and like you said eboyd that was very new at the time, and record companies did not have a protocol to follow in situations like this. This is what eventually set up the album split and new tracks being recorded. No one really knows whether it was Nas who decided to rewrite the albums and split them into two or if that was Sony/Columbia that forced it upon him in an attempt to boost record sales by giving the fans songs they haven't heard yet. Either way, Nas went back into the studio less than two months away from the release of the first album installment, "I Am", and recorded a completely new album. A few tracks stayed on the record I think, but still, it was basically a new record. I think if Nas would've just stayed with the double album it would've been an INSTANT classic, no question in my mind, leaked or not. For whatever reason though, all that bullshit happened and now people blame Nas for two shitty albums that aren't even really shitty if you listen to them with open ears and an open mind. The bootleg version of I Am exists on the internet, and it mostly comprises of the original recordings of some of the songs that were on the official release.

I own every NaS album and have dman near all if not every collabo he's done. and i can say without any regret or doubt that to me NaS being called is very much deserved. Naw they weren't on some donkey dick shit, at least to me. Nastradamus was a bit whack to me because Nas seemed to really try to get into a mainstream light even more so than previously, like a Jay Z or something, but each album has its classic songs and i still knock a few of them to this day. Quote And nas being G.O.A.T. is accepted by far more ppl so we win regardless. Word, Jeru is sick tho. he has a lot of knowledge laced lyrics as well just not even in the same country as NaS

Gigantic white sheep? Quote (Pensmoke) Nah, no way. Nas learned from and studied under Rakim. Rakim>Nas. Younger heads tend to overinflate Nas just a little too much. I agree, Rakim over Nas easily and I'd put a few other emcees over him as well but if I made a list now I'm pretty sure Nas would be a top 10 candidate.

Quote (Pensmoke) Dont get it twisted I like Nas, but I think he tries a little too hard sometimes to seem like he is holding some kinda secret knowledge that nobody else has. Yeah, no one can say that Nas is garbage but I don't think he's the G.O.A.T.
