Quote (ALCATRAZ) Solid post, abanks. It was non-biased, clear and concise. So says alcatraz, if anything your comments did have racial bigotry and were extremely biased and you were focused on trying to beat eboyd, your ignorance holds no weight, you couldve easily chosen a different route, instead of having a decent conversation and acknowledging eboyds knowledge you start a flame war of bullshit, trying to prove your point. in my eyes your the ass, the only mistake eboyd made was reacting the way he did to your snide hypocritical trolling bullshit. i lost interest your bullshit along time ago hence i stopped participating in this conversation until now.

Quote (Dookie) i lost interest your bullshit along time ago hence i stopped participating in this conversation until now. Um, Dookie, you were never a part of this conversation to begin with. Just go back through the pages and look at your posts. You contributed absolutely nothing to the thread aside from quoting my posts out of anger and accusing me of racism. I am not a racist. Added (23/Dec/09, 1:02 Pm) ---------------------------------------------
Quote (J-Breakz) 2pac presented a thug image, yes, because he was doing gangster rap, it was an image he tried to portray. 2Pac himself has stated that he does not subscribe to the term "Gangster Rap" and does not consider his music as such. I agree with 2Pac. Quote (J-Breakz) 2pac was always callin himself a thug, it was just an image he portrayed. So all those court cases, the jail time, the felony charges ... all those were fake? He made all those incidents up and got arrested and shot police officers because he wanted to maintain "an image" ? I think that you mean well with your posts, but you couldn't be more far from the truth.

Quote Back to the customer analogy. You are a customer when you are shopping, but most of the time you are not, right? So how is that different for someone who is acting as a thug in a certain situation? An act of thuggery, or even a few acts, don't define you as a thug. Simple as that. A fight doesn't define a person as violent. If someone is acting like a thug in a certain situation, than that is exactly what they are. Note the title of the person “a THUG in a certain situation”. Note the title. If I am a customer at the moment of shopping, I am a customer. Your analogy seems pretty straight forward and seems to back up the claim that he was a thug or at least one in certain situations at least. I agree a few acts do not solely define a human as such, but at that point of doing a thuggish act, I feel it can be argue that they were a thug. Quote If someone is hanging with “thugs” all the time as pac was, and was influenced by one as pac, do you not think he can be influenced to do those types of things on a regular basis? A façade that he created by dealing in thuggish acts. Just because it was 2pac, I don’t think it excuses for his actions, even if he had good intentions. You do the dirt you earn the title IMO. Quote You continue to misconstrue what we said. We never said to forget the word's meaning (I didn't anyways). What I said was that the natural process of linguistic amelioration (or semantic change) is slowly taking place, making the word "nigger" less powerful. Not once did I imply that the actual meaning of the word had suddenly changed because of hip hop. What I was saying that society should do is recognize the process that is taking place and recognize that it is a good thing, not bad (as long as people are educated to the history behind the term). The word is effectively losing power. The same can happen with the word thug, or any other word for that matter, but it isn't happening currently, or at least not to the point that the N word is. Besides, in order for this thread to be reminiscent of the other thread but reversed I'd have to be against the linguistic amelioration process of the word thug, which I'm not. I'd be fine with it changing definitions. Apologies if I did, but I still feel it was strongly implied by yourself and other posters, not in those words but others. I do not feel its meaning can ever be good. It seems like everyone is just telling those who still get offended to just lighten up. Similarly it’s what people, myself included are telling you to do with the word thug. Not sure if either group are justified in doing so. Quote the word only has power if people react in the way the racist asshole wants them too. i find it highly hypocritical people of other ethnicities cant use "nigga" in the way that people of african descent use it as a term of endearment.” –Dookie ^^you co-signed this. Not a bad thing, but people react the ways that they do because they are seeing the word at its original definition, and as an offensive term. Telling people the word has no power only if you let it is to me like putting blinders on. I had a few other quotes but did not want to get to into this again. Quote I'll definitely have to do my own research on this. Please do, very good read if you’re a fan of Pac, a few good chapters on the dude. But if true, would that make Pac a thug? Quote You're really misunderstanding me. I acknowledge him as a thug in the definition he gave to himself, but by the real definition, I do not feel he fits. I think he holds both titles, actual definition and self proclaimed definition. Both through his own actions. Quote Read the next comment I made. I discussed how I was wrong for assuming that and I apologized. I cant seem to find it, but what of the things I mentioned in the quoted text? “He was dressed as a “thug” his entire career. Define the appropriate apparel a thug must sport in order to be called such. Shit thug can be wearing a 1000 dollar suit, or a pair of basketball shorts. Also note you said he was influenced to do things that were thug like. I’m sure there is no rite of passage for a thug. They don’t just wake up one day and decide to murder or slang rock. All “thugs” are influenced by someone, something, or some force. Suge knight may have been the final person to push pac to that level of “thugdom” that we know him for today” -Me Quote why should 2pac's word about being a thug be any different? there's plenty of evidence out there that shows that he was an artist, not a thug, and hardly any evidence to show that he might have been a thug as well. Agreed that Pac has 100Xs the proof for being possibly one of the greatest and most creative artists of our generation, but I still feel there is substantial evidence presented in this thread that could hint at Pac being considered a thug as to the dictionary’s definition. Quote when were new users called niggers? I was called it http://realhiphop4ever.ucoz.com/forum/4-3675-1 Quote The Hughes Brothers are denying the long standing rumor that Tupac beat them up. They are saying that they were jumped by a group of crips. Here’s what they said to Vibe magazine. “The biggest misnomer is that me and Tupac got into any fight. It was me and 12 Crips that he got to jump me. He didn’t do shit,” Allen claims. “Tupac didn’t lay a hand on me. I had my hands on him. But there was not a physical fight between me and Tupac. It was a physical fight between me and 12 gangbangers. I believe they are called the Rolling 40s and they rolled me up pretty good.” Allen adds: “Tupac was an artist. Tupac was not a gangbanger. Tupac could not fight to save his motherfucking life. I know that for a fact. He was an immensely gifted person and he was far, far, from a thug.” He lets out a deep sigh. “I think that’s just years of frustration that just came out.“ Also discussed in Labyrinth was the Hughes bros. claims. They initially filed police reports, that one brother was beaten up severly while the other one got aaway to try and get help while shooting a music video. They later retracted there statements and refused to press charges. Once again in the book so author may have been lying but I found him to be a pretty credible source since he seemed to do his homework. Also Pac and fighting, he was one of the first to lay hands and feet on Orlando Anderson was he not?

Quote (abanks47) he was one of the first to lay hands and feet on Orlando Anderson was he not? Um, yes that's true, but that isn't thug behavior. That's simply 2Pac exhibiting his "revolutionary spirit" on Orlando Anderson's head.

I think that you mean well with your posts, but you couldn't be more far from the truth. true true, I think the whole reason why this is blown up is cuz a bunch of ppl call themselves thugs cuz they grew up in not so great places. But 2pac was a very influential person that shouldn't just be compared with just those cats thatr doin nothin but standin on the corner. You kno what I mean? But I'm not gonna waste time readin up bout the court cases, jail time, and felony charges.

Allegedly Huey went back to the hard life as well, but I find it very hard to believe. Quote true true, I think the whole reason why this is blown up is cuz a bunch of ppl call themselves thugs cuz they grew up in not so great places. I also think Pac was one of those who called himself that because he grew up the way he did and did what he did to survive. I agree with you that that's not all we should remember him for, if that's the first thing anyone thinks about when thinking of 2pac they're crazy IMO.

Quote Also Pac and fighting, he was one of the first to lay hands and feet on Orlando Anderson was he not? was he? how can you even tell who is who in that video, i guess its easier when you've got Suge Knight and all those other people there to back you up, or perhaps even 12 Crips, 2pac did say in that other video "i can't help it if there was also a group that beat him up too" that must have been the 12 crips. when it came to beef tupac said a lot of "things" HOLY SHIT no offense to anyone lol but 2pac looks kinda gay in that video when he was 17 he talks like a girl, was he wearing lip stick too?

Quote (Uncharted) i dont care Of course you don't care, because I just proved you wrong. Quote (Uncharted) little fucking nerds could shoot police officers I agree. But you made the claim that 2Pac was a studio gangsta. If 2Pac was a studio gangsta, he would not have shot cops, catch assault charges, felony weapons charges, and beat down members of the Southside Crips. Studio gangsta's partake in that type of activity on wax EXCLUSIVELY ... So congratulations on killing your own post. My advice to you -- Stay a Watcher LOL

2 quotes I found pretty interesting that help both arguments. Quote 2Pac didn't have a criminal record before he became a rap star. from: http://www.numberonestars.com/musiclegends/tupac.htm Quote While on the streets of Oakland, Shakur drifted into the gang life, accumulating a criminal record with eight arrests by the beginning of his twenties. from: http://www.nndb.com/people/548/000024476/ I say he was a very intelligent an intellectual turned thug, and continued to do this until his death in some cases holding both titles.

Was Tupac a thug? Who gives a fuck? Why is it given any importance? If he was a thug he's just another dead one. If he wasn't, he's dead through association to thugs. So if his intelligence manifest in a creative field it didn't cross over to subsequent life choices. He leaves two legacies... the creative expressions that many admire....and a corpse. Personally i care for niether.
