I laugh at stuff like this because most of you all act as if he's the only one who's dumbed it down. He just put it out there unlike most.

It's close minded shit like this as to why I choose not to participate in discussions like this because if someone defends Jay, he's considered a dickrider or a "pop bopper".

Honestly, Jay "selling out" is one of the reasons why I enjoy Jay-Z. Say what you will but dude is versatile. he can give you shit for the clubs one song & can get on some introspective shit the next. This is one of the reasons why I have Jay over Nas on my top 10. I fuck with Nas to the fullest but Nas (outside of "Hate Me Now" & I honestly thought that was Puff's doing IMO) has NEVER really been good for making other shit outside the intellectual & introspective music. I can truly say that when I listen to any party track by Jay, I enjoy because everything's usually solid from the hook, to the beat & the lyrics is for the most part straight.

The ONLY knock I can really see is that he does bite lyrics at times but even that can be overblown a bit.

I don't need to hear introspective stuff ALL the time when I'm listening to my music. Good music is good music, whether it sound commercial or underground. I just get plain tired of the "if it's commercial, then it's bullshit" mantra I see from some (keyword in this is SOME) of the underground heads around here & at other places.

& "Reasonable Doubt" IMO, is FAR from being overrated but that's just me. Jay just gets hate because he's popular & he sells records. If he was some underground head spitting the shit he used to do before "In My Lifetime Vol. 1" he wouldn't recieve HALF the hate he gets.

Hell, he'd probably be praised if anything.

Only god can judge me.

I am. To me, it doesn't matter if he sold out or not because he's made good music. "The Blueprint", "The Black Album" & "American Gangster" are all good to solid albums IMO.

Had to. I just fail to understand all the hate. When you look outside of whether he sold out or not, Jay (when he wants to show it at least these days) is a very technically skilled rapper.

I'm not saying he's no GOAT or anything but he IS good.

Only god can judge me.

Selling out means everything to Hip Hop dude

If someone sells out, theyre not doing it for themselves or Hip Hop, theyre just doing it for money
U can not care all u want dawg, but thats the problem with Hip Hop fans, they dont care
u cant be called a true Hip Hop fan if u dont care about a sold out artist who is contributing to the death of Hip Hop

But how's Jay contributing to the death of hip-hop? Seriously, this is the same dude that big upped M.I.C. (Monsta Island Czars) & other dope lrycists. If the music's good to me, than it's good.

One thing I DON'T do is bump & listen to wack artists (at least IMO.)

Jay might do it for the money but I think at least he cares about the state of hip-hop as much as any other cat that cares about the game.

I mean, shouldn't you try to make a living off what you love?

Only god can judge me.

true true but even if he sold out he still loves hip hop, he's stanky rich you really think he needs the money? black album was menna be his swan song but he came back, plus he owns part of def jam and rockafella records so he's still putting back into hip hop

anddd untitled was put out on def jam/collumbia so was a part of that album dropping lol
